The fatal collision has left family members, friends, and neighbors grieving the loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Richmond Palestine Road, just north of Downing Road in Darke County. Preliminary findings indicate that Ian was operating a 2005 Honda CRF250 dirt bike and was traveling northbound when his motorcycle was struck by a southbound 2014 KTM 350 SX-F dirt bike. Investigators reported that the second dirt bike, operated by 19-year-old Kasyn Hollinger of New Madison, had crossed left of the center line immediately before the collision.

The impact of the crash was severe. Authorities said Ian’s dirt bike continued north before leaving the west side of the roadway, while the KTM traveled off the east side after the collision. Hollinger survived but suffered serious injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Kettering Health for treatment.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officials have stated that alcohol impairment, speed, and helmet usage are all being examined as possible contributing factors, although no final conclusions have been announced. Authorities are asking anyone with information that may assist investigators to come forward as they work to determine the exact cause of the tragic incident.

The response to the crash involved numerous emergency agencies, including the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, New Madison Fire Department, Hollansburg Fire Department, Tri-Village EMS, MedFlight, and Ace’s Towing.
